Log icon Ten years

Written by Akeela in Log —

Yeah, well you see, it is already ten years that exists. A space where my huge ego can freely express itself!

A space in the middle of cyberspace.

In other words, hot air.

Yes, because aside from a few news of an average interest perhaps, the rest, let's be honest, no one gives a shit about it.

And it's so fucking good that way!

So, all together (but not), let's sing the song!

Happyy birthdayyyyy to the website, happyy birthdayyyyy to the website, happyyyy birthdayyyyy to the websiiiiiiiite and you can go to hell!

Olè laughing

Edit : Obviously, the anniversary date is not September 10th, but it is July 10th. If I did not seem to be alive at that time, it is because i was at the sea, far away (and happy) from a computer connected to the network. In your face!

Log icon Social guinea pigs?

Written by Akeela in Log —
fb_mind.jpgFacebook has played with people's minds and in a dirty way. An experiment performed on more than 700 thousand people was carried out by the social network. The goal was to alter the emotional state through a careful rehash of news feeds.

Did it work? Apparently so. Facebook has discovered that making the most emotional news feed is a good way to push back on the social network, and in this sense the research is used to "improving the service".

But can they do it? Yes, because all members have accepted the policy on the use of the data, which also approves any scientific research.

So why I said earlier that they played dirty? Simply because this policy at the time (January 2012), did not say anything about users potentially used as guinea pigs nor included the use of data for scientific research. These points were added less than 4 months after the end of the experiment.

Doing tests on the possible manipulation of human emotions through the content management is creepy, not to mention scary. But that's not all.

Adam Kramer, who has participated in the experiment, wrote that Facebook is trying to revise and improve internal procedures to develop and approve future experiments.

And there are people who wonder when I say that i am not on FB. Never been and never will be.

One must not forget one thing about this kind of company: [b]When the service is entirely free, it means that YOU are the product[b].

Thoughts icon A step away from the brink

Written by Akeela in Thoughts —
Lately I often find myself thinking, lost in my thoughts. To the point where I am almost blamed in being too quiet.

It is no wonder, that is, I'm a guy who listen a lot his own instinct but the reason always has the last word. Always ... except on a few occasions, like the one most striking happened two years ago.

I had made a choice just following my instincts (and not only me). Driven by passion and not by reason...

Music icon Foo Fighters 2014

Written by Akeela in Music —

The Foo Fighters have finally confirmed details of their highly-anticipated eighth studio album. The as-yet-untitled record, serving as the follow-up to 2011′s excellent Wasting Light, will arrive in the fall.

The album’s release will coincide with the airing of Dave Grohl’s new HBO TV series. According to a press release, the series will document Foo Fighters’ sessions in eight different cities — Chicago, Austin, Nashville, Los Angeles, Seattle, New Orleans, Washington DC and New York — as they record the album in various legendary studios.

The press release explains:
One song was recorded in each city, every song featuring local legends sitting in, and every lyric written in an unprecedented experimental style. Dave held off on putting down words until the last day of each session, so as to be inspired by the experiences, interviews and personalities that became part of the process.Foo Fighters press release

The first episode of the series will premiere on the eve of the band’s 20th anniversary. Grohl himself served as director.

Isn't it wonderful ? You can only have admiration for these mythical guys.

Science icon The 10% myth

Written by Akeela in Science —
I just saw the trailer of Luc Besson's next movie, called Lucy .

The synopsis can be summarized to this :
An involuntary drug mule, with a surgically implanted cargo, is assaulted causing the package to leak. This leads to her slowly ramping up the percentage of her brain she can use, resulting in abilities people dream aboutsynopsis from Youtube

Debunking the 10% Mythhead-gears.png

Neuroscientists point out a number of reasons why the 10 percent myth is false: Brain imaging scans clearly show that almost all regions of the brain are active during even fairly routine tasks such as talking, walking, and listening to music. If the 10 percent myth were true, people who suffer brain damage as the result of an accident or stroke would probably not notice any real effect.

In reality, there isn't a single area of the brain that can be damaged without resulting in some sort of consequence. We would not have evolved such large brains if we were only using such a tiny portion of them.

The brain uses approximately 20 percent of the body's energy. It would make little evolutionary sense to have such a large portion of our energy resources utilized by such a tiny amount of the brain. Brain mapping research has yet to find any region of the brain that does not serve a function.
Numerous types of brain imaging studies show that no area of the brain is completely silent or inactiveDr. Rachel C. Vreeman and Dr. Aaron E. Carroll

Wrote Dr. Rachel C. Vreeman and Dr. Aaron E. Carroll in a study of medical myths.
Detailed probing of the brain has failed to identify the "non-functioning" 90 percentDr. Rachel C. Vreeman and Dr. Aaron E. Carroll

Unfortunately, the 10 percent myth remains both popular and persistent. It has been repeated in popular culture in everything from advertisements to television programs. The next time you hear someone claim that we only use 10 percent of our brains, you'll be able to explain why this statement is not true.

Not to say that human beings don't have amazing potential – we just use 100 percent of our brains to accomplish these remarkable feats.

Who does not know already this band should get a move on, they're fantastic. A mix made by the voice of the singer/piano (Tyler Joseph) with a kick-ass drummer (Josh Dun) and wonderful rhythms with a touch of rap.

I'm listening to their last album vessel constantly for how good it is.

They have a pretty strong commitment on hot topics, almost philosophical. If you have the opportunity, read their songs lyrics to fully understand what they want to transmit.
Basically, we are all responsible for the preservation of our personal joy; but happiness is different. Joy is not circumstantial, happiness is. You can be depressed and still have joy. You can be suicidal and still have joy. We all stop thinking and we all stop talking and we all stop sharing and we all stop creating, because by doing any of these things we quickly find out just how unhappy we are. But that’s okay. That’s normal. Don’t let the fear of unhappiness cripple your pursuit of finding what it is you believe. Since joy is found in belief, we all have to push through unhappiness to find joy.Tyler Joseph

...I feel like we are all constantly encountering moral crossroads where the decisions that benefit the "now" will have consequences down the road; but the decision that might seem tough and tolling right away will ultimately be more rewarding. What is our purpose for playing music? We are constantly asking ourselves that question. The answer can change all the time, but for right now we are just going to stick with something as simple as "we want to make people think".Tyler Joseph

Thoughts icon My cat purrs

Written by Akeela in Thoughts —
P1070971.jpgMy cat purrs. It's an amazing thing when one thinks about it. Not the physical act of purring, but it's the timing and intent. It does not matter that you had a shitty day and not give a shit at all to him when you come back, he (or better she in my case) will come and show you some love.
It does not matter that it's raining for three days, that you stomp a paw by mistake or you forget to feed it and stay without food for half a day.
He will always come to see you when you come home, jump on your knees and show all his unconditional love.

So I say, my cat, should be taken as an example. By everyone. I see it every day on the street, people walking pulling a long face, like they had their dog shotted. If you stops someone to ask him something, his first instinct is to take a step back. Maybe I'm the one to cause this to happened with my 1,92m. It is true that looking around, almost all of them are "differently tall" compared to me. But just the other day, I was ten cents short to take the subway (I had to recover the car from the mechanic)...
